Tegel Projekt: Development
In 2008, the state of Berlin opened the floor to publicly discuss the future of Tegel. From the start, the process was about creating concepts in an open and interdisciplinary discussion.
Creative Think Tank
In 2009 and 2010, six renowned, international and interdisciplinary teams (architects / city planners / landscape architects) explored ideas in a cooperative workshop process. Those ideas were discussed from a number of different viewpoints and further developed with subject matter experts, involved administrative departments and stakeholders of the Berlin public.
This workshop process made it possible to pick up and debate different interests at an early stage. The result – a robust structural concept – opens up the desired opportunities for the future.
Public Participation
Five site conferences between 2008 and 2011 gave the public an opportunity to make positive suggestions and voice criticism. This triggered an exciting city-wide debate about the future of the area. The process will continue in 2012 with the third workshop and a sixth site conference.
Current Phase of Development
On the 9th of June 2011 the Berlin parliament agreed to the targets of the zoning and landscape plan. The development plan procedures were initiated and a first round of public participation took place in the beginning of 2012, which is currently being evaluated.
In September 2011, Tegel Projekt GmbH - a subsidiary of the WISTA-MG Adlershof was mandated and took over the managerial tasks for the site development.
