Pure Nature as it should to be
Adlershof's green heart is the former Johannistal Airfield and is 68 hectares. Several smaller parks and green oasis' dot the landscape of the „City of Science Finance and Media, 17 hectares altogether. The task now at hand, the preservation of valuable bio-topes in the former airfield. The landscape architect Gaby Kiefer has developed a 3-zone concept: Active park areas, landscaped areas and nature preserve.
At the heart of the project: the 26 hectare nature preserve, which was officially declared a natural protected area in 2003. At the end of the 40's the airfield was abandoned and nature began to take over. The nature preserve is surrounded by a raised walkway making it possible to experience the area without disturbing it.
Between the elevated walkway and future building sites is the active park with its 30 urban gardens. The runway has become a meeting place for inline skaters from all over Berlin.
The landscaped area has been designed in the style of classic English landscaping, with open meadows and groups of trees. The primary task remains securing the area with the limited public funding available for the maintenance of green space.
