Things are really moving at the Photonics Centre

There’s a lot happening at the Photonics and Optical Technologies Centre ZPO in Adlershof. A new generation is taking over. Successful established companies are setting up their own buildings at this technology location – creating space for new ideas at the Centre. Where are Adlershof photonics companies active? Kezban Saritas: For years now, the photonics sector has enjoyed a course of stable growth of about seven percent p. a. Many of our... [more]

A perfect match: Editorial by Dr. Wilhelm Kaenders, President of TOPTICA Photonics AG

TOPTICA can boast today over a dozen Nobel laureates in Physics, not least of all last year’s winners Serge Haroche (ENS Paris) and Dave Wineland (NIST Boulder, USA). What many do not know: It is Berlin high tech motors that just these customers have been installing in their complex apparatus for years. Adlershof researchers and entrepreneurs are good customers of many years’ standing. At BESSY, the Max Born Institute and Humboldt- Universit... [mehr]

We need more space!: Not just one, but several photonics companies are currently building a new head office or an extension – and remain true to the location Adlershof

AEMtec GmbH is not the only photonics company in Adlershof that has to deal with a building project in addition to its core business. The next few weeks will see, for example, Bruker Nano GmbH move into its new head office, a renovated stock building on Justus-von-Liebig-Straße. Just opposite this, a new company building is taking shape for LTB Holding. Also on Justus-von-Liebig- Straße, construction work has begun on an extension to LLA Instr... [mehr]

Key to new production technologies: For years, optics and microsystems engineering have been on the road to success in the capital region of Berlin-Brandenburg

Over 400 in number, the companies and research institutes employ 16,600 people and are achieving a turnover of 2.3 billion. Gerrit Rössler, Cluster Manager for Optics at the TSB Innovationsagentur Berlin GmbH, is clearly pleased: “Networking in the cluster has progressed to a very great extent.” Now new tasks are in the offing. Rössler points out that the knowhow is of economic relevance not only to the companies in the region. “Many of ... [mehr]

Multipurpose fibres: From biogas fermentation to the identification of risks associated with intestinal cancer – the Adlershof company art photonics manufactures special purpose fibres for a wide range of applications

Thanks to art photonics' fibre technology, cancer specialists can so to speak see into the future and identify a number of deadly diseases before they can break out. New infrared endoscopes detect inflammation in the finest folds of the human digestive system that are invisible to the naked eye. The initial stages of the dangerous intestinal cancer can then be treated at a particularly early time. At the heart of these tubular endoscopes are the... [mehr]

Medical Provisions:

The ability to change can be a key to success. One example of this is demonstrated by opTricon GmbH. The company was launched in 2005 as a service provider that developed components for optical data transmission. The customers were mostly neighbours in the Adlershof Technology Park. Today, opTricon is a global player that manufactures optical reader systems for use in medical diagnostics. Also companies like Lumics or Lasertechnik Berlin have “... [mehr]

Excellent research: Adlershof is profiting from the university’s excellence status

It is now official: Research at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU) also enjoys the reputation of being excellent – also for nanooptics, a highly complex field of physics where top researchers find great promise for the future and pave the way for visionary technologies like quantum computers. The terrain explored by Professor Oliver Benson and his team starts where classical optics ends. The researchers want to understand what happens on the... [mehr]
