SUMMARY:WiNS Workshop: Body, voice, arguments – Presentation skills for scientists
DESCRIPTION:
X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:
Science needs presenters who present their scientific results in a self-confident manner. But how do I orally bring my content across in a convincing manner? How do I control my voice? How do I stand? How do I move, and how can I have fun when speaking in front of an audience?

In addition to content-related competence and subject-matter knowledge, the way of speaking is of particular importance: contents are conveyed through people. When presenting, it is hardly ever the content that counts the most but the way of HOW you bring the content across to the listener. This requires professional rhetoric skills. How you speak, how you talk, how you convince: you will present orally. Nevertheless, the content remains the prerequisite for a good presentation. Only what comes across will be there.

Content

What is rhetoric and what can rhetoric do?

The first impression: oral appearance – how do I come across?

IS-SHOULD status: body – voice – speech and presentation behaviour

The oral presentation tools

Voice and body training

Speech and training structures: free, spontaneous speech and speaking training

Female scientists in presentation

Stage fright

Free presentation

Discussion with the audience

Short masterpieces

Target group: female doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows
Maximum number of participants: 12

About the trainer

Dr. Jane Bormeister, a rhetoric coach and health professional in complimentary medicine, will teach you the art of rhetoric, strategies & techniques.
