Non-university research at Adlershof
3D-television, super effective solar cells, traffic free motorways, ultra-sharp Mars cameras, the brightest light for mega-microscopes, energy saving light from light diodes, pure silicon counted to the last atom... these are the kinds of things that we research here at Adlershof.
Over 1,800 staff, 1,000 of which are scientists, work in the 10 non-university research organisations. A further 180 people based here are working on their dissertations.
Science Network IGAFA

In 1992, the non-university research institutes formed the IGAFA (Joint Initiative of Non-University Research Institutes in Adlershof) regional network. It fosters cooperation amongst organisations and with universities and businesses, and generates synergies via scientific events, the joint welcoming of international guests, the running of the meeting centre and the distribution of literature.
Annually, 975 publications and 350 conference talks are funded by the 174 million Euro budget, of which 53 million are derived from third-parties. In addition, 400 patents have been registered, forming the basis of the more than 20 successful new companies to emerge from the IGAFA’s institutes. Every year, more than 1,200 guest scientists work at the IGAFA institutes, of which 150 long term (over a month).
