The Leibniz Institute for Crystal Growth (IKZ) is a leading research institution in the field of science & technology as well as service & transfer of crystalline materials. Our goal is to enable solutions for pressing societal challenges (e.g. communication, artificial intelligence, climate protection, health, etc.) through modern electronic & photonic technologies. The work covers the entire spectrum from basic and applied research to pre-industrial development and is carried out in cooperation with national and international partners from universities, academies and industry. The institute is part of the Forschungsverbund Berlin (https://www.fv-berlin.de/) and a member of the Leibniz Association (https://www.leibniz-gemeinschaft.de).
The Leibniz-Institut für Kristallzüchtung currently looking for a
Master student (m/f/d)
for the master thesis topic: „Raman characterization of alloying effects in (AlxGa1-x)2O3“
β-Ga2O3 has emerged as a promising material for the next generation of power electronic devices. The large band gap and resulting high breakdown field strength, together with relatively straightforward n-type doping, make it particularly suitable for use in power electronics. By alloying with Al, the band gap can be specifically modified, allowing the production of unipolar transistors. IKZ is currently one of the few manufacturers capable of producing structurally high quality single crystalline (AlxGa1-x)2O3 alloys. In order to better understand the properties of this alloy, fundamental measurements of the crystal system are required. The aim of the Master's thesis is to characterize the compound using optical spectroscopy, mainly Raman, but also photoluminescence and absorption spectroscopy.
Your tasks:
- Raman measurements
- Photoluminescence measurements
- Absorption spectroscopy
of Ga2O3 and (AlxGa1-x)2O3 bulk single crystals.
The candidate must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent in physics, physical chemistry, materials science or a related discipline.
The Leibniz-Institut für Kristallzüchtung actively supports a healthy work-life balance and is an equal opportunities employer. Female candidates are encouraged to apply and will be given preference if suitably qualified. Among equally qualified candidates, preference will be given to candidates with disabilities.
Have we aroused your interest?
Then apply with a letter of motivation, curriculum vitae and all relevant certificates.
We look forward to receiving your application!
