Real space for virtual worlds: IT and media technology in Adlershof
Adlershof offers three centres for information technology and media with a total of 13,400 m² of usable area. Companies and start-ups have access to attractive hardware and software development rooms with flexible rental units that are connected to Adlershof's high-performance network.
The Centre for IT and Media I (ZIM I) at Albert-Einstein-Strasse 14 is an eight-storey office building divided into two halves by a full-height atrium. These rest on V-shaped columns arranged in pairs, giving the impression that the building is floating. An additional spatial experience is created by three ellipsoidal areas suspended in the atrium, which are used for meetings. Right next door at Albert-Einstein-Strasse 16, ZIM II offers flexible rental units from 40 to 1,000 m² on a total area of 5,000 m².
ZIM III is located in the street Am Studio 2-2a. Its façade is characterised by staggered loggias, which lead into open communication areas inside and are colourfully designed. It offers a total of 5,400 m² of rental space.

Networking and cooperation in the field of IT and media technology
Many large and medium-sized companies have found their home in the IT and media sector in Adlershof. The main topics for Adlershof companies are: ambient intelligence, multimedia, transport and logistics, security technologies, health technology, Industry 4.0
Adlershof is connected to numerous IT industry networks, including SIBB e.V. and ICT & Digital Business Association Berlin-Brandenburg. Our companies network with site partners from a wide range of scientific fields, including the Departments of the Humboldt University of Berlin (Department of Computer Science, Mathematics, Psychology – user experience – and Geography – geomatics and geoinformation processing), the German Aerospace Center and the GFal Society for the Advancement of Applied Computer Science.
The Department of Computer Science at HU has dedicated itself to key research areas, each of which comprises several research groups:
- Big data spaces in web-based environments
Development of algorithms and data structures for storing and analyzing large data sets using heterogeneous, distributed hardware and software environments; Dealing with semantic knowledge and data security issues; Grid computing - Models and algorithms
Modeling in computer science; competence in the areas of probabilistic methods and logical systems in relation to algorithmic issues.
The Adlershof Technology Centres were largely financed with funding from the GRW — Joint Task of Improving Regional Economic Structure and from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
