Public evening lecture highlights PTB's contribution to the ESA NewAthena mission
On December 3, 2025, Frédéric Safa and Marcos Bavdaz from the European Space Agency (ESA) will give a public lecture presenting the scientific objectives and technical implementation of the NewAthena mission. This X-ray telescope is expected to provide new insights into the nature of our universe from the second half of the 2030s onwards. Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is involved in this project in its laboratory at the BESSY II electron storage ring: Additional beamlines are being set up there to measure and characterize silicon pore optics (SPO) in order to create a mirror surface of 300 m² on board the telescope in space.
The event will take place as part of this year's HZB user meeting (December 3 to 5, 2025) in Berlin-Adlershof.
