Girls’ Day 2026 at Humboldt-Universität

On 23 April 2026, the institutes at HU in Adlershof are opening their laboratories for school pupils

At the Adlershof Science and Technology Park, school pupils gain exclusive insights into the world of research. At the Institute of Physics, scientists explain complex topics such as the Higgs boson or entangled quantum states to pupils from Year 10 onwards and talk about their own career paths. Meanwhile, the Institute of Chemistry invites pupils to experiment with light and dyes and to learn how the batteries of tomorrow are made.

Robots, embroidery and watering plants

The Institute of Computer Science at Humboldt-Universität focuses on interaction:

  • Virtual Reality: Immersing yourself in the world of human-computer interaction.
  • Lego robotics: In the ‘Programming through play’ course, participants build and control their own robots.
  • Programming embroidery patterns: A special workshop combines programming with the art of embroidery, in which mathematical patterns such as snowflakes are transferred onto fabric bags.
  • Building a self-watering plant: Using Arduino minicomputers and sensors, participants develop a self-watering system for plants.

Viewing the Earth from space

The Institute of Geography also offers exciting perspectives. Here, participants can analyse the Earth using satellite imagery. In doing so, they learn to collect their own data and compare it with real images from space to better understand global connections.

Register and take part

All information on the full range of activities at Humboldt-Universität , registration and available places can be found on the Girls’ Day website. Pupils from Year 5 onwards can take part in Girls’ Day and apply for a school exemption to do so.

About Girls’ Day – Future Day for Girls

Girls’ Day aims to introduce girls to fields of study and careers in which women have previously been under-represented. At this annual orientation day, schoolgirls can get a taste of fields such as IT, natural sciences, technology and the trades, or meet female leaders from business and politics. The nationwide initiative is funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, and is supported by various institutions and associations from the fields of education, business and civil society.
