Good bye, Lenin! 78,000 sqm to film 79 sqm

There is hardly another German film that has gained so much attention both nationally and internationally as Wolfgang Becker’s film about a 21 year old, named Alex, whose mother suffered a heart attack just prior to the fall of the Berlin Wall and is left in coma. As she awakens, eight months later, the GDR has become the FRG (Federal Republic of Germany)! In an effort to protect his mother’s weak heart, Alex re-creates the GDR within the walls of the 79 sqm high-rise apartment. Studio Berlin provided the perfect conditions for filming as well as the supporting framework. The studio subsidiary, Studio Hamburg Group constructed a modern production center on 78,000 sqm of land that now attracts a growing number of projects to the south of Berlin. The center includes the film and television complex with seven studios and the associated film and sound production rooms, with editing tables, director’s offices, as well as rooms for make-up and costumes.
