Minister Gabriel visits the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing
“BAM sets high standards for Germany and the global markets”
Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Sigmar Gabriel, visited the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin today. BAM is a subordinate senior scientific and technical authority of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). BAM’s President, Professor Ulrich Panne, informed Federal Minister Gabriel about BAM’s activities in research, services and technology transfer.
Federal Minister Gabriel said: “The safety of products and processes in technology and chemistry creates important added value for our German industry. It builds citizens’ confidence in new technologies. BAM makes a significant contribution to the technical safety of products and processes in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry as well as to our citizens’ life and work. BAM sets high standards for products that are ‘Made in Germany’ for Germany and the global markets.”
Professor Panne says: “Our innovations and our ability to share our knowledge support German industry. Safety creates markets. To fulfil our mission, we invest in the next generation and indeed from apprentices to Ph.D. students. In addition, there are a number of very successful young entrepreneurs who have emerged from BAM.”
BAM has researched, tested and evaluated substances, materials, parts, components and facilities as well as natural and technical systems of economic relevance and social dimension for safe handling and operation for more than 140 years. As part of its legal and political tasks, BAM identifies, communicates and implements requirements for safety in technology and chemistry for tomorrow's society. BAM provides independent and high-level services in research, consultancy, testing and technology transfer for customers in industry, business, science and political life.
