Networked, Intelligent and Sustainable

Future Living in Adlershof

Developed on a property on Groß-Berliner Damm roughly the size of 6,400 square metres, Future Living Berlin (FLB) is a housing project which, across Europe, can be considered a unique model for connected urban quarters of the future. Created at the centre of the city of science, Smart Homes will facilitate their residents‘ everyday life through intelligent home automation features. Applications will be gradually optimised through user data analysis for tenants to be able to enjoy maximum comfort and security. The first sod was cut in July 2017.

GSW Sigmaringen and Unternehmensgruppe Krebs have been working on a future-oriented concept for urban living solutions since 2013. Conceptionally as well as architecturally, FLB aims to address some of the most pressing challenges of our society: demographic change, energy revolution, mobility in urban areas.

The beginning of construction work in July 2017 has marked the first step in this direction. In the next two years, 69 apartments, 20 Boarding House Studios, 12 commercial units as well as an exhibition space and cafeteria will be created.

On a new level, these buildings will contribute to the overall increase in networking. Residents can communicate with their homes thanks to each unit’s intelligent automation features including lighting systems, loudspeakers or sensors such as presence detectors or door-contacts. Individual elements such as room temperature, lighting, lights, or elevators can be controlled either by a central app or by voice. Moreover, residents counting on e-mobility can opt for community carsharing.

With conviction, Berlin’s Governing Mayor has recently taken over the patronage of the project: “Smart City is a concept much closer to our life-world than we think,” says Michael Müller. “Enriching our lives, the services offered by FLB will become relevant for all of us anytime soon.”

Future Living DIALOG makes a point of providing room for information and communication by offering a 3D power wall, a model of the quarter as well as augmented reality technology for virtual tours of the apartments. In addition, regular events, conferences and exhibitions will be scheduled.

As of May 2019, the first residents will be able to experience the “future of living” first-hand.
