PicoQuant expands its VisUV picosecond pulsed laser platform

Modules emitting in the near infrared or with high optical powers are now available

Picture of VisUV laser platform
The VisUV is a versatile and compact laser platform ideally suited for spectroscopy and microscopy applications

PicoQuant has introduced two new pulsed laser modules VisUV-1064 and VisUV-532-HP, rounding out the VisUV platform line-up. Up to now, modules based on this platform provided laser pulses at 266 nm, 355 nm, and 532 nm, either individually or in combination with one or two other wavelengths. The new VisUV-1064 emits picosecond pulsed laser light at 1064 nm with an average optical power of more than 1 W, while the VisUV-532-HP provides high-powered sub nanosecond pulses at 532 nm with an average optical power of up to 750 mW.

While the previously available short pulsed (<70ps) green and ultraviolet versions of the VisUV are ideally suited for fluorescence lifetime spectroscopy and microscopy applications, the high powered green and NIR versions with broader pulse widths can be used for application requiring higher laser powers such as e.g. LIDAR or in-situ Raman Spectroscopy.

All of these modules can be operated at internally selectable repetition rates between 31.25 kHz and 80 MHz or externally triggered at any repetition rate between 1 Hz and 80 MHz. The output beams are of excellent quality, featuring a nearly perfectly circular and Gaussian shaped profile with M² values below 1.3.

The modules from the VisUV laser platform is based on a Master Oscillator Fiber Amplifier (MOFA) concept with possible frequency conversion. The master oscillator generates infrared picosecond pulses with variable repetition rates using proven gain-switching techniques from PicoQuant. The seed laser output is then converted using either second, third, or fourth harmonic generation.

About PicoQuant
PicoQuant is a research and development company in the field of optoelectronics. The company was founded in 1996 and is based in the science and technology park Berlin-Adlershof, Germany. The company is a worldwide leader in the field of single photon counting applications. The product line includes pulsed diode lasers and LEDs, photon counting instrumentation, fluorescence lifetime spectrometers and time-resolved confocal microscopes. PicoQuant employs currently around 60 people. Since April 2008 Sales and Support in North America is handled by PicoQuant Photonics North America Inc.

The development of the Science and Technology Park Berlin Adlershof was and is co-financed by the European Union namely by EFRE. This concerns infrastructure development like construction of technology centres. Furthermore EFRE is used for international projects.
