WINS Training & Events
The main idea of our faculty career development program is to give effective support and to connect female early career scientists. We offer regular career development workshops and networking opportunities.
The workshops are offered by experienced trainers in English and are free of charge for the participants. Zoom links for the online events are shared after registration.
They address female doctoral candidates and postdoctoral fellows at the Adlershof campus and participating research centres.
Academic Life Hacks: How to convince others & delegate tasks
Dr Christiane Kasack
Do you ever feel responsible for outcomes, but without the authority to make them happen? Are you unsure how to motivate a colleague to take on a task? Would you like to delegate more confidently and get things done with less friction?
As a PhD student or postdoc in the natural sciences, you regularly ask bachelor’s students, master's students, TAs, or junior colleagues to take over tasks: You are leading without being able to exert formal authority.
This three-hour workshop gives you practical tools to do exactly that, more effectively and with more confidence. You will explore how to build trust and set clear expectations, practice active listening to better understand what motivates your colleagues, and learn to use a delegation matrix to match the right tasks to the right people. You will discover a spectrum of delegation and explore how to not end up doing more yourself than you want to. A hands-on role-play exercise lets you put it all into practice in a safe environment.
Last but not least, you will gain a clearer understanding of your own leadership role and responsibility, learn about concrete strategies for motivating and convincing colleagues, and take away a practical tool for delegating tasks more effectively.
