Energy for Happiness
The Germans can always find plenty of reasons to complain. The weather is usually at the top of the list, followed in close second by public transport. You can decide for yourself where to rank the other issues – the healthcare system, housing market, bureaucracy, and, of course, politics. Maybe it’s just part of our cultural DNA? In any case, according to the World Happiness Report – which takes into account factors such as income, health, and sense of freedom – the level of happiness in this country is definitely not great.
So what can we learn from our Scandinavian neighbours who were ranked happiest in the report? Researchers include things such as composure, creativity, courage, and strong social connections. These are qualities which the first founders of the Technology Park also possessed, and which continue to enable them to operate successfully today. In this autumn journal, we take a look at the energy that drives us – in terms of real technology, but also figuratively as ideas and attitudes. By using examples from photovoltaics, climate-neutral fuels, geothermal energy, and battery research to impressively demonstrate the vast expertise of the key players based here, and in the cover story, we examine the master plan that is being jointly developed by various location partners to make the Adlershof Technology Park climate resilient for the future.
And so we have come full circle: happiness is found where people create things together – or, as the Berlin Zukunftsorte (“Future Locations”) say: the future will be good because we are shaping it!
Sincerely,
Peggy Mory

Niklas Albinius shares his knowledge about building with photovoltaics:
Who knows what his career path would have looked like if he hadn’t asked the question? Niklas Albinius’ curiosity was piqued after a lecture on ‘Solar Construction’ at the University of Applied Sciences in Berlin,…

A Blueprint for Climate-Resilient Technology Districts
A master plan for climate resilience is intended to prepare Adlershof, as well as other locations, for the future:
Climate change is very much here and so it’s high time to prepare the technology park for the future. How exactly this will be done is currently being worked out with the support of WISTA, with a master plan being…

Broken but not Defeated – The Adlershof Pioneers
After 1990, GDR scientists such as Christine Wedler and Norbert Langhoff turned Adlershof into an economic success story:
After the fall of the Berlin Wall, many scientists in the former East Germany suddenly found themselves without any prospects. This was the case for Christine Wedler and Norbert Langhoff when they had to start over –…

New secure bicycle parking spaces at Adlershof S-Bahn station
At the end of May, new secure bicycle parking facilities with 24 parking spaces went into operation at the Adlershof S-Bahn station. The facility is located in the immediate vicinity of a Jelbi station operated by Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG). Bicycle spaces can be booked via the ParkYourBike app.
The new facility was constructed as part of the Bike+Ride initiative, a collaboration between the German Federal Ministry for Economics and Energy and Deutsche Bahn.
By early 2027, similar secure bicycle parking facilities are to be built at nine additional public transport stations in the Treptow-Köpenick area, including Berlin’s first bicycle parking garage at Schöneweide station.
