Are you uncertain about whether to pursue an academic path or explore opportunities beyond academia? This workshop is designed to guide you in identifying your strengths, clarifying your goals, and developing a strategic plan for your professional future.
In this hands-on workshop, you'll start with a personal assessment to uncover your unique skills and potential. What are your strengths? What areas do you want to develop further? You'll also reflect on your values and career aspirations, ensuring that your future career aligns with what truly matters to you, both professionally and personally.
One of the key elements of the workshop is exploring various career options. You'll gain an understanding of academic career paths in Germany, including the potential rewards and challenges of pursuing a career in research. Learn how to build an academic career portfolio and prepare strategically for a successful academic career. However, academia is just one avenue. You'll also explore the non-academic job market in Germany, discovering how your skills and experience can translate to roles outside of the university setting.
What should you consider when choosing a career path? How can you find job opportunities that align with your professional background and personal goals? By the end of the workshop, you'll have inspiration and ideas on how to developed a clear career strategy, whether within or outside of academia. You'll create a personalized Vision Board that maps out your goals, needs, and aspirations. Additionally, you will plan your next steps towards achieving your career goals, whether it involves further academic preparation or transitioning into a new professional field.
The interactive workshop approach combines short presentations, group discussions, and guided self-reflection. You'll work on developing solutions and scenarios tailored to your specific questions and challenges. Through the use of practical worksheets, you'll not only capture ideas and inspiration but also create actionable plans that you can continue to build on after the workshop. The materials you develop during the workshop, including your competency profile, Vision Board, and career portfolio, are designed for ongoing use and refinement.
About the trainer:
Dr. Annika Bartsch works for the company “Karriereberatung für Akademiker*innen” (career counselling for academics). She has several years of experience in research and teaching in Academia as well as in coordination, and consulting as a science manager in the field of early career support. Her work as a trainer and coach focuses on leading doctorates to success, competence profiles and career planning as well as self-management for researchers.
