That was the Long Night 2024
Around 60 scientific and science-related institutions in Berlin opened their doors in summery temperatures for the Long Night of Science and invited visitors to take a look behind the scenes of research and science.
A varied programme was offered with experiments, science shows, lectures, laboratory tours and many other formats: The Long Night of Science provided in-depth insights into science and technology, education and research, people and society, medicine and health, art and culture.
The positive atmosphere and enthusiasm for science was palpable in all the institutions, both among the guests and the representatives of the institutions.

Illuminated cooling tower
The cooling tower of the former VEB Kühlautomat, Berlin, later KBA Kühlautomat Berlin GmbH, was staged by Bauwert AG together with light artist Nils-R. Schultze for the Long Night of Science. The former GDR plant, which manufactured refrigerators, cooling systems for ships, diesel engines for railway and shipbuilding, compressors, DC compressors and later screw compressors, has been closed since 1996. Over the next ten years, a new urban neighbourhood with 1,800 flats and commercial uses will be built on the site of the former "VEB Kühlautomat" between Segelfliegerdamm, Groß-Berliner Damm and the Johannisthal Landscape Park.
The silhouette of the illuminated cooling tower was visible on 17 June 2023.
